Nebraska: Omaha
By: Kari Young
Omaha is more than just the home of the Oracle of Omaha, billionaire Warren Buffett, and Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder meeting that's famously held here. This city has way more to offer than what you would even venture to think and especially this time of year, Omaha offers that classic American Christmas feeling that will help make this a memorable season.

Visit Omaha! {Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo}
By: Tanya
Last week, my family and I had the pleasure to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. We have lived in the southwest for 3 years now and we have been to the zoo just once - right when we moved here. The kids were pretty young (3 and almost 1), so they weren't really too sure about what to think with the zoo. While my kids are now 6 and almost 4, we thought we'd take them back to the zoo since they were older and would really appreciate it. We didn't tell the kids that we were going to the zoo until the morning that we arrived in to Omaha. What, like you would want to hear ‘When are we going to the zoo mom??' Huh? Huh? Huh???' for a week straight?

Things to Do with Teens in Omaha
By: Corrie Oberdin
Because I have a young son, I often focus on what to do with young kids. However, I realize that pre-teens & teenagers aren't going to jump up and down when presented with some of the options I wrote about in "Things to Do in Omaha with the Under-5 Set." After talking to several teens in our family - and dragging my 14 year old niece around town for in person feedback - I've compiled a list of places to go that should interest your teenager in Omaha should you come and visit us.

Our Mini Vacation, Part Two
By: Laura
The first day of our mini-vacation was spent at the Durham Museum, Red Mango and our hotel swimming pool. The next day, we headed to the Henry Doorly Zoo, truly one of the best zoos in the U.S.
I will say that our day at the zoo wasn't perfect, but that was due to the 101 degree heat that threatened to do us in a time or two, which of course wasn't the zoo's fault. And thankfully, there were some lovely air conditioned areas we took full advantage of!

Our Mini Vacation, Part One
By: Laura
First, let me say that I really had no idea I was torturing so many of you by not revealing what our boys' "surprise" was. On Gratituesday when I was very vague again about what we were doing, that truly was because I had just spent part of forever at our hotel trying to get online and then stay online (my only complaint about our otherwise lovely hotel). Then, once I was finally able to post, my brain was so tired, all I could do was write, "we're having fun - I'm going to bed".
Now that I'm going to reveal what we've been up to, you are likely to say, "oh, is that it?" because really it was just a little getaway and a fun mini-vacation we surprised our boys with. That's all. Ah, but it was fun. :)

Staycation: Enjoying Omaha on a Budget
"Mr. Mom Endeavors" and I are college sweethearts--we met at the University of Nebraska (Go Big Red!)! He grew up in Omaha and his parents still live there. Although we live in the Phoenix area now, we're rather familiar with (and quite fond of) the largest city in Nebraska! And, yes, there is A LOT more to do than just hang out in corn fields! :) With the rising gas prices, many are looking for summer fun that's affordable and maybe a little bit closer to home. So, whether you're local to the Omaha area (or will be visiting sometime in the near future, like us), here's a highlight of some of the great family-friendly things to check out: If you don't live in the Omaha area (or aren't planning a trip in the near future), then check out the HUGE Staycation list with 85 cities featured!!

Six and the Cities: The Larger Towns on US Route 6
By: Malerie Yolen-Cohen
US Route 6 is not all about small towns. Several big cities are scattered along the way: Provincetown, Hartford, Cleveland, Des Moines, Omaha, Lincoln, Denver and Los Angeles to name a few.
It is not my intention to exhaustively research each of these places - there are plenty of other guidebooks that cover much more than I can in a few days. I DO plan to write about the important, the cool, the fresh, the lyrical, the "don't leave out if you have a day or two"stops - and leave the garden variety and boilerplate to fine-tooth-combier scribes.

Omaha... I had no idea
By: Kelly Moore
Now, of course, my heart is in Des Moines, but that's no reason to avoid day-tripping. And here I hadn't a clue that Omaha had so many festivals. By my count, they are hosting 10 from May to September alone.
I discovered this little gem of a fact as I was leafing through my copy of the 2011 Omaha Visitor's Guide (we can't really afford a big vaca this summer, so we're thinking of doing mini ones within driving distance).
