Road trip to Omaha to celebrate the new year with family festivities. Read on for five suggestions to make this New Year’s Eve with kids a memorable one in Omaha.
Step into the enchanting world of The Durham Museum’s annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration on December 31 from 10am to 2pm. Your kids will enjoy a live performance by Dinosaur “Dino” O’Dell and the T-Rex All-Stars. Ring in the “noon year” with your own hand-crafted party hat, stomp on bubble wrap and clap in glee as countless balloons in every color of the rainbow drop from the ceiling.
Bring on the bubbles this New Year’s Eve at the Omaha Children’s Museum, where you can don party swag, make crafts and witness the Amazing Bubble Show. All activities are included with admission, as are hourly countdowns with bubble machines going off throughout the building. Look for special guests – beloved children’s characters roam the floors.
Several skating options in Omaha present your crew the opportunity to glide right into the new year. The Skate Ribbon at The RiverFront is open New Year’s Eve (11am-10pm) and New Year’s Day (11am-9pm). Enjoy the festive lights and warm up around a fire ring afterward. Moylan Tranquility Iceplex has public skating on Jan. 31 (10am-12pm and 12:30pm-6:30pm) and New Year's Day (12:15pm-6:30pm). Heartwood Preserve also has skate times on both days; book online.
Heat up the car, pack a thermos with hot cocoa and head out to the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Spectacular. Free parking opens at the CHI Health Center Omaha lots at 6pm. Tune your radio to STAR 104.5 to listen to the holiday soundtrack to the fireworks show that begins at 7pm.
Visit Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, voted the country’s best zoo, on the first day of 2025. It's open from 10am to 4pm on January 1.
From our Visit Omaha family to yours, may your new year be filled with adventure, delicious food, exciting arts experiences and even more of what Omaha has to offer. And if you’re traveling without kids, be sure to check our post “Fun for Adults in Omaha this New Year’s Eve.”
