Omaha Tourism Now a $2 Billion a Year Industry

Omaha, NE. September 26, 2017 – Omaha has experienced seven straight years of tourism growth. New economic impact research completed by Tourism Economics – An Oxford Economics Company shows tourism's impact on the city has now reached close to the $2 billion mark.

The study shows 12.3 million people visited Omaha in 2016. Those tourists spent a total of $1.22 billion while visiting the city. That increase in visitor spending resulted in local businesses spending another $700 million in the community,

This includes $109.44 million in labor income paid to an estimated 2,849 workers employed at either Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium or businesses throughout the Omaha economy. OMAHA, NE. June 13, 2017 – Baseball is in Omaha’s DNA and the month of June is proof. For the next several weeks Omaha will host the NCAA Men’s College World Series, and the Triple Crown SlumpBuster Youth Baseball Tournament.

OMAHA, NE. May 24, 2017 – One of Omaha’s historical treasures has joined an elite list. The Durham Museum was recently designated as a National Historic Landmark. The National Park Service, which oversees the landmarks program, identified the museum as “one of the most distinctive and complete examples” of art deco architecture in the country.

The museum is Omaha’s former Union Station, a once bustling train depot built by Union Pacific in the late 1920s. It was one of the first art deco-style railroad stations ever built in the country.
